Did I call the Ghost of Crap-Relationship Past back into my life just by reading that poem? Yes, it appears that I did.

What if everyone saw the real you?
I believe in being real. After the disaster that was my second marriage, I realized that I was no longer willing to hide, pretend, or sugar-coat in attempt to get love or acceptance. It didn’t work and only made things worse, and I was done with it. So I decided […]
Psyched and inspired, or full of post-holiday blargh?
Happy New Year! It seems like people have one of two reactions to the first week of January. Either they bounce into the new year refreshed and fired up, all ready to make this the best year ever! Or they drag themselves back to work, feeling tired, lethargic, and disoriented. […]
The most important life hack of all (do you agree?)
It wasn’t just the cereal bowl. It was everything.
Every morning, my first husband would sit in the living room and eat a dish of cereal. When he was finished, he’d set the bowl on the floor next the recliner with half an inch of used milk still in the bottom. Then he’d go on about his day and not think about it again. I, on the other hand… couldn’t NOT think about it.
But that wasn’t what bothered me most. What turned a minor nuisance into a raging insult was my interpretation.
One foot on the brake and one on the gas (but mostly one on the brake)
Have you ever had a goal, something that was really important to you, yet somehow not quite managed to achieve it? Maybe you even knew exactly what to do. Maybe you felt like you were putting everything you had into it. Yet, somehow that wasn’t enough to make it happen. […]
How to be far less flappable
You know how some people can change your mood, just by being around them? Some people spread happiness like grass seed. On the other hand, you might be feeling fine until you run into Mr. Pit of Despair. If you’re not careful, you can absorb his mood and feel like […]
2017: The Year of…?
One of my friends posted this meme on Facebook last week: After I laughed, I thought about it. What does it mean to be more or less single? Is that like being mostly dead or a little bit pregnant? How do you become more single? Am I more single than […]
The tree frog’s guide to self development
Last week, I went on a retreat in Puerto Rico. Our venue was perched on the edge of a cliff overlooking the ocean, and we were in the rain forest part of the island, so we had the sound of tree frogs lulling us to sleep each night. It was […]
Atlanta traffic, fear of failure, and finally being good enough
What are you afraid of? I’m not talking about things like spiders or snakes. I’m talking about your real fears. If people saw the things you’re trying to hide about yourself, what would they see? And what are you afraid would happen if they did? This is on my mind […]
The third-scariest thing I’ve ever done (and why it was awesome)
Ignite Retreat 2016 was frickin’ amazing. I hate that so many people missed it, so I want to share some of the highlights. But first, I want to tell you what a huge thing it was for me to plan and host this retreat. Not only was it an enormous […]
What difference can three days make?
They say that, until our pain is greater than our fear, we never change. That does seem to be true. For me, that point came a few months ago. I had been in a time of mourning and deep depression, and my life had fallen apart. As I came awake […]
Ignite Retreat, October 17-19, 2016
If you could get out of your own way, you could do amazing things. However, if you’re not fully connected with your true self and your life purpose, you’ll always hold yourself back. Even when you work really hard and do all the right things, you’ll keep the brakes on […]
