Maybe you’ve heard of the 1000 Awesome Things blog. (If not, check out this entry: #1000 Broccoflower–it’s hysterical!)
I think that guy is on the right track. Appreciating is the #1 shortcut to enjoying life more. And I’m feeling really happy today, so I decided to make my own (much shorter) list.
- Ben & Jerry’s Phish Food. The chocolate ice cream, the caramel and marshmallow swirls, the fudge fish–bliss. (Yes, I’ve fallen off the wagon on the sugar thing.)
- Cold fronts in Alabama in summer. After days (weeks?) of unseasonably hot, unrelenting baking sun, a few days of drab, overcast, almost chilly weather feels like heaven!
- Friends. My life has been pretty darn crazy lately. I don’t know what I would have done without my awesome friends.
- Peaches. Oh yeah, it’s peach season here. Sweet and juicy! My oatmeal changes with the seasons.
- Good tools. When I took time off work back in November to write How to be Happy, I found some big flaws in my setup. My desk chair was uncomfortable, my monitor was tiny, and my keyboard was super stiff. I did most of my writing with my netbook on the couch. Since then, I’ve upgraded all three, and the difference is incredible!
- Misty mornings on the lake in a kayak. I used to live just up the hill from a small lake. Summer mornings, I’d get up early and take my kayak out. It was so beautiful and peaceful, and I often saw blue herons and other cool wildlife. I miss that.
- Flickr. Isn’t it amazing that we live in a time where people take thousands of incredible pictures and share them with the world?
- The woods. Walking among the trees, I feel small, but in a good way, like being a little kid and utterly trusting that your parents could keep anything bad from ever happening to you.
- Art supplies. I’m one of those freaky people who, upon discovering a large display of Sharpies in every single color imaginable, will stand for at least five minutes staring at them and wishing to own them all. Lately, I’ve been on a collage kick. I love putting together colors and textures and making a mess. Unlike anything else I do, it’s entirely selfish. Nobody else will see it, so it doesn’t matter how it comes out or what happens.
- Convertibles. Flying down twisty mountain roads with the cool air blowing my hair back–one of life’s finer pleasures.
- ? Your turn–what’s one awesome thing you’re thinking of or enjoying right now?
My #11 is sitting on the porch with my husband, enjoying a cold one, discussing our respective days, watching the dragonflies swoop and dive, watching the cat blissfully roll in the driveway dirt, listening to the hummingbirds chirp and chatter at each other, waving to a neighbor driving down our quiet country road.
Wait, that’s my #1…
You just momentarily transported me there! Love it!! 🙂
Cara, as a writer, you just gave me the ultimate compliment! Thank you!
My pleasure–you earned it! 🙂
Great post, Cara! My awesome thing I’m enjoying right now: Coffee brewed in my French Press. Unbeatable.
Yeah! Savor it! 🙂
Today I enjoyed a quiet, peaceful cool morning in my house when I woke up. It’s nice cause it’s not hot yet outside so I don’t need to turn on the AC. I enjoy mornings like that.
Nice! We’ve had a few nights here that were cool enough to open the windows. Love that! 🙂
Found you through Benny’s awesome 40 people post!
I think the Internet-Social Media.
We’re the only generation that has SUCH an easy time to spread ideas with fellow like-minded thinkers.
I don’t have to wait in the mail for a week or so. All I have to do is tweet someone 🙂
Great point, Matt! I love the speed and ease of making connections with people all over the world, too. Whenever I think about it, I just marvel.
